Pick of the Week Issue 62: The Sacrificers #12

To hear Mike and I discuss this book and the rest of what we read last week, listen to our latest episode here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1793148/episodes/16103172

The Sacrificers is back after a hiatus! I really missed this book and I was happy to see it sitting on the shelf again.

In this issue Pigeon takes a look inside himself and starts to realize what his impact his choices have had and who he has hurt during his ascent/decent into madness. I say ascent and decent because without him becoming what he is, he and many others would be dead and the system would continue to punish innocent people. But is this a better world because of his choices than it was before for the average person not in power? Or is this a transitional period and growing pains that will lead to a better world?

Over the last few issues Pigeon almost seemed invincible, but we are reminded here that he isn’t and he can be hurt or even killed. This adds to the tension and suspense, not to mention the heartbreak in his face realizing who he’s hurt along the way. This makes brings him back to being sympathetic and relatable. There was also a moment in this issue that seemed like it was supposed to have significance or give the reader an idea of things may not be what they seem, but that may just be me looking too deep into it.

I love Max Fiumara’s artwork. It’s absolutely gorgeous.

Sadness, grief, pain and a little action makes this another fantastic issue in this series. The art and colors are the perfect match for the story, and do a lot of the heavy lifting with the storytelling. That isn’t easy to do, but Fiumara makes it look easy. This is one of the best if not the best book on the shelves right now.

  1. Just finished this and it was as cool as you said! Action packed yet deep at the same time, it really delivered. Fiumara’s art just gets better and better.
