10 Questions for José (Jose’s Amazing Worlds of Fantasy on YouTube)

Yes, it’s that time again for 10 Questions! On our community forum, members are forced volunteer to have other members send questions to them and their answers be posted each week on the blog. This week our volunteer is José.

A bio for José:

José has been a reader all his life. He lives with his wife and two children on the east coast of Spain, from where he runs the Jose’s Amazing Worlds of Fantasy Youtube channel and Fantasy Talks Live podcast. Because that is not enough, he also runs the Spanish language La Biblioteca Fantástica de José channel. He is grateful to be a member of the PageChewing Forums and surprised he is invited to talk about one of the things he enjoys most in life.

His YouTube channel can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/@JosesAmazingWorlds

1. Do you have a favorite interview that you’ve conducted on your channel?

This is going to sound clichéd, but I have honestly enjoyed every interview/conversation in the channel. Even when I was tired on a Friday evening or didn’t know anything about the author, they have always been enjoyable and I have been greatly impressed by people’s willingness to get their work out there. But if I had to point one or two out, Sandy Petersen, designer of the Call of Cthulhu game which I still play to this day, and two time World Fantasy winner Tim Powers, whose books I had been reading for decades, stand out to me.

2. If you could time travel to any point in history, where would it be and what would you do?

I guess any past time is worse than the present day, I mean, you go back to ancient Egypt and appear as a slave, that’s messed up. I guess I would go back to the 90s and have a chat with my young self about a few things I should not have done and things I should have done.

3. If you could master any weapon or martial art, what would it be?

I know it’s not the most efficient martial art, but I am a bit of a boxing fan, so mastering the sweet science would be pretty cool, and handy in some situations!

4. A strange old man approaches you and offers to make a deal. He’ll see to it that you receive $50 a week (or regional equivalent) for the rest of you mortal life, however, upon acceptance, a massive, three foot long, grey, wizard beard would sprout from your chin… instantly. There is no way to remove the beard, you need to just accept the fact that you will forever have a wizard beard. But you also get $50 a week. Do you accept?

The issue with this is that a three foot long beard carries with it some lifestyle choices that I am not sure I am willing to take on. Ask me in 20 years time!

5. In a world where citrus fruits never evolved. What do you put in a glass of coke / pepsi along side ice to give it some zing and what flavour of cheesecake is now king?

Cucumber? What’s wrong with just ice? Is apple a citrus fruit? Did you know Coke stole the recipe from a Spanish drinks maker at the turn of the century?

6. What would you do if you were the only survivor of a plane crash?

Find the heroin stash and wait for sweet oblivion. However, if my wife and children were still alive, I would try to do all I can to make it home by any means necessary.

7. What’s the most inspiring event, real or fictional, that you’ve ever seen?

Super tough question. Sporting events can be very inspirational. Rafa Nadal coming back from countless injuries, that Australian Open final against Medvedev, the 2005 Champions League final aka The Miracle of Istanbul. Amundsen’s race to the South Pole… I guess seeing my wife give birth and holding my son for the first time was definitely a life changing moment.

8. If you had to write a story with only discworld characters, which 4-5 would you pick as your lead cast?

I have played a version of this game, which 5 DW characters woudl you invite to dinner. Nanny Ogg, Lord Vetinari, Cohen, Granny and Nobby. That might make for some interesting conversations and a full rendition of The Hedgehog Can’t Be Buggered…

9. Can I borrow your LP of Rainbow Rising?

Jarrod, you are the coolest guy I have talked to in the forums. I’d ship it to you!

10. Any plans for a calisthenics channel?

Haaaaa, nope. I would be too self conscious, I don´t look so hot. However, I would love to find a community of middle aged dads like me that still try to look after ourselves and be able to to do a few chin ups by the time we get to 50.
