In Episode 17 of Beyond the Page, I sit down with Dr. Robert J. Wolf, author of Not a Real Enemy: The True Story of a Hungarian Jewish Man’s Fight for Freedom.

The book tells the remarkable story of Robert’s father, Ervin Wolf, who survived forced labor during World War II, escaped multiple times, lived under both Nazi and Communist rule, and ultimately escaped Hungary following the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

Robert explains how his father originally documented his experiences and why, decades later, he felt compelled to turn those writings into a book rather than allow the story to remain on a computer.

We also discuss the emotional toll of revisiting his family’s history, resilience in the face of persecution, appreciating freedoms we often take for granted, and the importance of preserving firsthand accounts of the Holocaust.
