As soon as I finished Swan Songs #2 I knew it would be the pick of the week. After loving issue #1 so much, I expected a bit of a drop off with issue #2. I was bracing myself for a little bit of a let down after coming out of the gate so strong but issue #2 is somehow even better than the first issue was.
In this book we explore the end of a marriage, the start of the book we are witnessing a divorce proceeding. We then go back in time to witness the beginnings of their relationship, how they met, how they couldn’t be apart, how they shared everything and we get each characters perspective with how the relationship evolved from a deep love to hating each other.
The dialogue is separated by different colors for each character and why they blame each other for the marriage falling apart and where they think things went wrong.
By the end of the issue we are exploring what love is. You question what love is to you and why we do this to ourselves and each other. The end is both hopeful and depressing at the same time. It’s a heartbreaking story that we can all relate to in some way.
It’s not often a book gets this strong of an emotional response from me, but when it happens it’s something really special. This is going to be one of my favorites of the year, it’s that good.
