The Warrior Prophet Chapters 14–17: Becoming the Warrior Prophet

⚠️ Full-series spoilers throughout.

The Slog continues with Chapters 14–17 of R. Scott Bakker’s The Warrior Prophet, bringing us to the end of Part Two.

The Holy War is consumed by battle, but we’re increasingly interested in another conflict happening beneath the surface: what is Kellhus doing to everyone around him?

Cnaiür begins questioning his own actions. Serwë’s absolute belief in Kellhus gives us another clue in the mystery surrounding the halos. And Kellhus continues learning, manipulating, and transforming until people finally begin calling him something new:

The Warrior Prophet.

We also spend time with Esmenet as her own transformation begins. Her conversations with Kellhus, her past, Achamian’s presumed death, and even something as simple as learning to read take on much greater significance when viewed through the events of the later books.

Along the way, we debate Bakker’s enormous battle sequences, the Consult’s knowledge of the Dûnyain, Moënghus’s increasingly complicated plan, and whether anyone, including Kellhus, really understands everything that’s happening.

As always, we’re rereading with the entire series in mind, which means nothing from the seven books is off limits.
