The Warrior Prophet Chapters 9–13: The Making of a Prophet
⚠️ Full-series spoilers: This discussion assumes you have finished The Second Apocalypse. Nothing is off limits.
The Slog continues.
This week, our Second Apocalypse reread tackles Chapters 9–13 of The Warrior Prophet, and Kellhus’s influence over the Holy War is becoming impossible to ignore.
Crowds begin gathering to hear him speak. Warriors interpret his words as revelation. Even characters who approach him skeptically find themselves questioning whether there might be something more going on. But knowing what we know from the full series makes those moments much harder to take at face value.
We discuss Kellhus’s methods of manipulation, his treatment of Serwë, his efforts to obtain the Gnosis from Achamian, and one of the biggest questions surrounding his rise: are people actually witnessing something supernatural, or are they simply seeing what they already want to believe?
There’s also plenty of Achamian, Esmenet, Conphas, the Scarlet Spires, sorcery, unsettling foreshadowing, and another batch of details that mean something very different once you’ve finished all seven books.
⚠️ Full-series spoilers throughout.
