We’re back with two weeks of comics to catch up on, and this time the stack was…rough.

This week on Panel Chewing, Jarrod and I work through a huge pile of new releases, including Absolute Green Lantern, Absolute Superman, Kingdom of Earth, Savage Sword of Conan, Powers 25, American Caper, The Dirt Beneath the Devil, and more.

Some books surprised us. Some disappointed us. And more than a few had us reaching for the dreaded trombone button.

Our Picks of the Week

Thankfully, things eventually turned around.

Jarrod’s Pick of the Week is Solomon Kane: The Lion Errant #1, featuring Patrick Zircher’s return to the character with a new adventure set in India.

My pick is The Omega Book #1 from Mad Cave Studios. This strange new sci-fi mystery combines an estranged father and son, science and religion, hidden dimensions, and a device capable of revealing what’s really happening behind the world we see. It’s exactly the kind of weird first issue that makes me want to come back for more.

The Best Lone Wolf and Cub Volume Yet?

We finish the episode with our ongoing Lone Wolf and Cub readalong and Volume 10 may be my favorite yet.

The conflict between Ogami Itto and the Yagyu escalates dramatically, while Ogami and Daigoro are forced into unfamiliar territory. Separating father and son gives us a chance to see Daigoro on his own and leads to some of the most emotional and visually impressive storytelling we’ve encountered in the series.

By the end, both of us ranked Volume 10 among the best we’ve read so far.
