The Karman Blade Just Became Our Favorite Fantasy Comic | Panel Chewing #153
It’s not often that Jarrod and I agree on our Pick of the Week, but this time there wasn’t much of a debate.
The Karman Blade #2 absolutely blew us away.
The first issue introduced what appeared to be a familiar fantasy story: a chosen one, a mysterious blade, and a dangerous quest.
Then the second issue arrived and completely overturned our expectations.
I won’t spoil what happens, but the creative team behind Little Bird and Precious Metal has delivered something genuinely exciting. The artwork is incredible, the storytelling is unpredictable, and the combination of dark fantasy and horror makes this one of the most interesting comics we’re currently reading.
What Else Are We Reading?
This week on Panel Chewing #153, Jarrod and I also discuss Marvel’s changing approach to digital comics and whether subscription services are still worth the money.
Then we work through another stack of comics, including:
- Fire and Ice: Dark Wolf #4
- Shift #1
- Hammerhead #1
- Cruel Kingdom Vol. 2 #2
- Ice Cream Man: Chocolate Vanilla Twist #1
- The Omega Book #3
- Regicide #3
- City of Demons #5
There are some interesting surprises, a few disappointments, and, remarkably, no trombones this week!
Lone Wolf and Cub Volume 21
We finish the episode with our ongoing Lone Wolf and Cub read-along.
