Sometimes I wonder if I should choose a different series for my Pick of the Week. It’s been pretty often that The Sacrificers is my choice, but if I don’t choose the book I enjoy the most it doesn’t really make sense to pick something else.
I love Pigeons character arc and his journey from the beginning of this series. Every issue he faces new challenges and questions on his journey, sometimes having to face the fact that he is making things worse in his quest to make things better. There are too many different variables and results for anyone to really know what the consequences of their actions would be, it’s never a neat process. There are always going to be problems you don’t anticipate even if you have the best intentions. I love this about this series.
In this issue, Pigeon is faced with questions about control and systems of control. Who should be in charge of these systems? Should these systems even exist, would the world be a better place without these systems? These are questions that aren’t easily answered. If Pigeon destroyed these systems, would the world fall into chaos? Should he hand the controls of these systems to someone else? Questions like this aren’t easily answered and I continue to consider these topics after reading the book and even in real world situations.
It’s not unusual for a book who rotates artists for the quality to see a drop off. There isn’t a drop off on either of the artists drawing The Sacrificers. The artwork is always stellar and consistent.
This series is clever and thought provoking, it’s been full of surprises with the topics and ideas it’s explored while still being entertaining.
